"The Neon Blue Light"
It was during the 1st Gulf War, 3 days before Christmas It was about 2:45 am. My friend Pat was driving me home from a Christmas party, when all of a sudden he slammed on his breaks and said "What was that?!" I said "What?" "The Sky!" He exclaimed! "You didn't see that?" I said "No what". He said "Shh!" and pointed. We were silently looking up through his windshield when all of a sudden the sky instantly became a bright neon blue. It was amazing! Then, it went back to normal. We just stared and it went neon blue and back to normal. It did this off and on for about 4 or 5 more times. We didn't know what it was and we were both very excited. We told our families and they pretty much blew us off. We talked to many people. One person said that perhaps it was the govt. putting something in the atmosphere to help aid the spy satellites spy on Iraq. Pat and I both thought that was very unlikely, plus: IT WAS THE ENTIRE SKY! It was a bright, even covering. It didn't look like it was coming from any particular source. Then we were told by others that perhaps it was ball lightning or Northern Lights. Well, there was no thunder -- No sound at all, in addition, there have never been reports of either of these phenomena in the Philadelphia area. Then we looked at pictures in the library and it didn't resemble ball lightning nor Northern Lights at all! Well, over a year passed. I pretty much lost touch with Pat, and I couldn't sleep one night. So to help me fall asleep, I put on my headphones and turned on WWDB FM, which was a radio talk station back then, to help me fall asleep. It was near Halloween, and the talk show host stated that he was going to devote the night to people's true ghost or paranormal stories. He then stated that he wanted to share a story of his own before he opened-up the phone lines. He said that over a year ago, right before Christmas, he was leaving the radio station very early in the morning when he saw the sky change to a "florescent blue" then back to normal and back and forth. He described what Pat and I saw exactly! Another thing to note is that the talk show host did not see this in Philly, but in Bala Cynwyd, PA! He said that it drove him crazy that there was nothing on TV about it and no reports. He said after diligently searching area papers and such, he did find a very tiny blurp in the local newspaper about it. It basically said that 97 people witnessed the sky changing color back and forth and they called the police and/or the media to find out what it was. The blurp stated that the weather officials and authorities and no record of it and did not know what it was. To this day I couldn't tell you what it was. Was it a dimensional shift in the sky? A vortex, some kind of window to a different time? Whatever it was, I believe it was something or some being (life-force) that was not of this earth! Copyright©2002 David M. Sitbon
"A Lingering Spirit"
I have two very good friends named Stuart and Lance. Stuart always likes to play the Ouija Board with me while Lance always warns us of playing. We've gotten some brief encounters with spirits through the board, and so far have not had any bad luck. (However, one time we encountered a spirit name Hugh who did not like Lance at all). Lance was nervously watching us with the board, and the spirit Hugh was very insulted that Lance wouldn't say anything not even Hello! We asked Hugh if he wanted Lance to say or do anything, and the planchard spelled out: "D - I - E". Lance got up and quickly left the room. Stuart and I laughed so hard, we lost concentration and never heard from Hugh again...Too bad too he was very interesting! A little background on Lance...He is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine. He performs acupuncture and does hypnosis. Back in 1996, on a Saturday night, I observed Lance put Stuart under hypnosis, and the strangest thing happened. Stuart pointed at me with his eyes closed while under and said that there was a purple light above my shoulder! Lance and I could not see this, and we were wondering how Stuart could see anything with his eyes closed! Anyway, Stuart started to smile and said that it was a flibbie. I asked him what that was and he said that it's a spirit that didn't pass over yet. He said her name was Bettie and that I was over her house on Thursday. I got really freaked out because I was a funeral director then and that previous Thursday, I did pick up a deceased named Bettie! He said that Bettie saw how kind I was to her family and how nicely I talked to them. This really was scary, because Bettie's daughter didn't make it to the house yet because she was stuck at work, and my partner and I waited with the family as I talked with them and counseled them for about an hour and a half! I never discussed cases with details to my friends and I especially didn't mention any names. (The "flibbie's" name was not really Bettie in reality, I changed it out of respect to her, her family, and to keep things more confidential). Anyway, "Bettie" told Stuart (he was the only one who could see or hear her) that she knew she didn't belong at her house anymore. So, she followed me because she saw how I comforted her family and she saw her body upstairs and saw me and my partner carry her body out. She said she is hoping someone would soon show her where to go, but she felt comfortable around me. I asked Stuart to ask Bettie what her daughter's name was and Stuart responded with the correct name! Now I positively knew it couldn't have been an elaborate prank! Stuart's speech started to become slurred and he slowly awoke from the trance. We turned the lights on and Stuart apologized for falling asleep. We told him what happened and he didn't remember a thing. He never even heard the word "flibbie" before. (Neither have Lance nor I...We even went on the internet and to the library and never found that word.) Later on, Lance has hypnotized Stuart again, but nothing unusual happened. We never heard from Bettie or any other spirits through hypnotism again. Sometimes when Stuart and I get together, we do have brief encounters with the Ouija Board, but nothing as dramatic as that late Saturday night in 1996. Wherever Bettie is now, I hope she has found her way, and I hope she has found peace. I will be glad to share as many of my stories as I can remember. I've had a few paranormal experiences in my life...mostly due to my field of work. I hope to one day go on a serious paranormal hunt with cameras and equipment. I hear that New Hope, PA and Historic Philadelphia are ideal for such quests. Copyright©2002 David M. Sitbon
"Haunted Funeral Home"
When I was a practicing funeral director, I worked in an old home that was built in the early 1800's. It was originally a grocery store which became a funeral home in the 1950! 's. Many times I would be asked to stay behind to mind the funeral home while the owners were out to answer the door and telephone. Many times, on the 2nd floor (their personal living quarters), as I was watching TV, I would see a person wearing beige clothes on the top of the steps in the corner of my eye. As quickly as I could turn my head and focus my eyes, the person would be gone...without a sound. Similarly, as I'm working in the office (in the basement) by myself at night with no one else in the entire funeral home (with the exception of perhaps some dead bodies), I would hear many footsteps above me, as if there were 20 or more people walking around with shoes on. I would quickly run up the stairs and shout "Hello!", never getting a response. I'd run into the viewing room which is directly above the basement office and it would be completely empty! After a few months of this happening, I approached the funeral home supervisor's wife and co-owner of the funeral home about these occurrences. She said that they've experienced them too and agreed that it "just wasn't the old house settling". She said none of the images in their peripheral vision nor the noises ever acted in a threatening manner and never caused any harm, so they learned to live with them. She added that the original owner's wife died of a freak accident on the property. In the middle of winter, she went outside where the outhouse used to be. As she was doing her business, the old wooden floor gave-way and she fell into the foul sewage. She drowned in her family's own feces and urine! It took some rope and a few horses to get her out. A few months later, her husband committed suicide inside the home by hanging himself above the 2nd floor steps, and the grocery store soon after closed-down for good. As for the multiple shoed footsteps that are often heard at night, that can't be explained, but perhaps they are just other unsettled souls who found a place to gather. Copyright©2001 David M.
